ACA Section 1557 Non-Discrimination Notice

Wounds Plus complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in its health programs and activities.

In accordance with Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, Wounds Plus provides equal access to all individuals and is committed to ensuring that every patient receives high-quality, compassionate care—regardless of background or circumstance.

Section 1557 extends nondiscrimination protections to individuals participating in:

  • Any health program or activity receiving funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS),

  • Any health program or activity HHS itself administers, and

  • Health Insurance Marketplaces and all plans offered by issuers that participate in those Marketplaces.

As a recipient of federal financial assistance—including Medicare and Medicaid payments—Wounds Plus is considered a “covered entity” under Section 1557 and is required to uphold the standards set by this law.

On May 13, 2016, the HHS Office for Civil Rights issued a final rule implementing Section 1557, including requirements for covered entities to take proactive steps to prevent discrimination and ensure accessibility for all patients.
